Serendipity at the supermarket occurs when you spot your favorite cereal and have the coupon in hand. More likely, though, you have to hunt for your coupon, only to discover that it expired last week. At that point, you can either pay up or settle for the cheaper generic -- unless, that is, you're able to get a coupon on demand.

Big Data Health Hazards


If anything can go wrong, it will." Murphy's Law (or Sod's Law, as it is known in the UK) applies to big data projects, as well. When those projects concern someone's health, something going wrong in the data can lead to something going very wrong with the patient.
The more one relies on the accuracy of the system, the higher the potential for error. Electronic health records (EHRs) are considered a boon to data aggregation, but they hold a potential downside.  Read more here

When Big Data becomes Big Brother

You are being watched. Does that make you feel safe or make you feel exposed? The answer to that question determines whether people applaud or decry New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's latest initiative.
